A little background on Littlehampton:

Littlehampton was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Hantone. There is evidence of settlement here at the mouth of the River Arun from pre-historic times. As an active port, the prefix Little was probably applied a few centuries later to distinguish it from the larger Southampton to the west. About 4 miles inland up the River Arun is Arundel, which has a castle and a cathedral, both of historical interest.
